Welding Manager – Abilene, KS
Land Pride, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing, is seeking an individual with a high level of integrity and leadership skills to join our team as a Welding Manager at our Abilene West facility in Abilene, KS.
In this role, you are responsible for safety, coaching, guiding, assisting, rewarding, and creating a positive team atmosphere.
You’ll help to promote unity, efficiency, high quality standards, and personal growth in our welding team skill-sets.
This is a salaried role that works 1st Shift, Monday-Thursday from 6:00 a.
m.
to 4:30 p.
m.
, with overtime on Fridays, and reports to the Production Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direct weld department operations.
Develop the initial skills for leadership: provide feedback and give recognition.
Create the Weld schedule; adjust staffing and work hours to meet schedules.
Manage weld department employees, including reviews and addressing concerns to provide a good work environment.
Work with Engineering to improve or correct weld quality, safety, or production issues.
Ensure training, regular communication, auditing for safe practices, and required inspection or completion of inspection findings.
Perform weld fixture maintenance.
Participate in capacity planning and efficient use of equipment and people.
Drive Lean efforts within the department including implementation.
Administer company policies and procedures to ensure consistency with company direction.
Understand both fitting and welding procedures as you will have to lead and assist both.
Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
3-5 years’ experience welding in a manufacturing environment
Supervisory or management experience preferred
Working knowledge of all aspects of Industrial MIG Welding and weld robot operations
Computer experience including Microsoft Office
Experience in manufacturing supervision
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts
Familiarity with MRP and AS400
